A match on a giant screen draws a crowd, provided picture, sound, welcome and safety are well prepared. The guide to running a fan zone in a hotel, café or company in Tangier.
When Morocco plays, the terraces and hotels of Tangier fill up. A well-run fan zone turns that wish to watch together into a real event: an atmosphere, an identified place, an experience people come back to match after match. Whether you run a hotel, café, restaurant, association or a company that wants to gather its teams, here is what to prepare.
1. Frame the project before talking equipment
Three questions guide everything: how many people you expect (and in what space), for which match or series of matches, and with what goal (retaining customers, filling a venue, bringing a team together, offering a free moment to the public). A hotel running a paid fan zone does not have the same needs as an association organising one for a neighbourhood.
2. Check the broadcasting framework
Showing a match to an audience, especially in a commercial setting, is not neutral: broadcast rights belong to specific broadcasters. Before you communicate, ask the competition’s official broadcaster what is allowed for your type of venue. If the fan zone is outdoors or on public land, also check the local permits you need. An agency can help you ask the right questions, but the authorisation process remains the organiser’s.
3. Choose the location
- Hotel terrace or garden: pleasant, easy to secure, controlled capacity.
- Function room or lounge: sheltered from wind and outside noise, good sound control.
- Outdoor space with a marquee: larger capacity, with groundwork, electricity and wind to prepare for.
Think about visibility: the screen must be readable from the back without craning your neck, and the sun must not hit the picture at match time.
4. Picture: the LED screen, the key to atmosphere
A screen that is too small or not bright enough ruins the night. Size it to the distance of the last row, check brightness if the screening starts before nightfall, plan a second screen if the space is long, and have a technician on the control desk for the signal, a switch to a replay, and your partners’ ads at half-time. See our event equipment rental.
5. Sound: half the emotion
The commentary must stay intelligible, but atmosphere is also the sound of the stadium: shouts, chants, goals. Plan a sound system suited to the size of the zone, speakers spread out rather than a single source, and microphones for announcements. For the neighbours, check the hours and set the level accordingly.
6. Entertain before and after the match
The match is short; the event starts earlier. A DJ or host, games, a prediction contest, a photocall in national-team colours, a kids’ corner: all of it brings people in early and keeps them afterwards. Plan the celebration in case of a win, and a calm plan for the other case.
7. Service: food and drinks
A fan zone works if spectators are served without missing the action: buffet or stands, platters easy to eat standing, plenty of refreshments. See our catering service to size the offer to the number of guests.
8. Welcome and safety
On match night crowds are dense: plan hosts and an entrance check, a head count, clear exits, smooth access to toilets and service, path lighting, a safety lead and, if needed, a partnership with a security company. State the rules at the door: prohibited items, expected behaviour.
9. Plan B
Screen failure, lost signal, power cut, rain: each sensitive point has a solution — a second screen or backup projector, a generator, a shelter. Test everything the day before, using the same signal as for the match.
Our approach
