A garden, a villa, a beach: the outdoors is a dream, provided you prepare the ground, the power, the weather and the guests’ comfort. Our advice before renting a marquee in northern Morocco.
An outdoor reception offers what no hall can: a place of your own, a natural setting, freedom of layout. In return, it requires preparing what a hall provides without anyone thinking about it.
The ground
Available surface, flatness, type of ground (grass, earth, sand, slab), access for lorries, distance between the marquee and the house or the kitchen. A visit with the supplier allows the structure to be sized and its anchoring planned.
The structure and the flooring
White-roof reception tent, traditional caidal tent or open structure: the choice depends on the style and the season. Flooring with carpet changes everything for guests’ comfort and table stability — especially on grass or sand.
Wind, sun, rain
In northern Morocco, wind is the first thing to address: weighting or anchoring, side walls, orientation. In summer, plan ventilation or air conditioning; in mid-season, heating for the end of the evening.
Power and lighting
Caterer, sound, lighting, air conditioning: add up the needs and check the available power. A generator is often necessary. Ambient lighting under the marquee — festoon lights, projectors, lanterns — makes up a large part of the setting.
Guests’ comfort
Enough toilets, lit access, cloakroom, kids’ corner, parking and signage from the road: these are the details guests remember.
Set-up
Allow a day for set-up, sometimes two for large structures, and plan the dismantling and restoration of the ground. Coordinate the decorator, the caterer and the technicians after the structure.
