Stage, sound, lighting, LED screen: how to size the equipment, which questions to ask the supplier, which technician to plan for and what a quote should include, for an event in Tangier.
Technical equipment is invisible when it works and devastating when it fails. A whistling microphone, a screen unreadable from the back of the room or a stage too small for the programme spoils an event you prepared carefully. Here is how to approach stage, sound and LED screen rental in Tangier without nasty surprises.
1. Start from the programme, not the catalogue
Before asking for a price, describe what will happen: how many people, in what venue (room, garden, beach, hotel), which moments (speeches, concert, awards, fashion show, screening), what time. A serious supplier builds the proposal from these answers and asks you questions in return.
2. The stage
- Size: big enough for the number of speakers, the musicians’ gear, the movements of a fashion show or dance.
- Height and visibility: the whole audience must see the speaker’s feet; height depends on the depth of the room.
- Access: stairs, ramp for people with reduced mobility, side access for smooth movements.
- Safety: stability, railings where needed, floor suited to the ground (grass, sand, slab).
- Dressing: skirts, carpet, backdrop, set elements.
3. The sound system
Sound is sized to the room and the content: speeches, recorded music, a live band. Points to check: power and number of speakers, distribution (a single source gives sound too loud at the front and too weak at the back), microphones (wireless, headset, handheld) in sufficient number with spare batteries, stage monitors for musicians, a suitable mixing desk. For an outdoor event, allow for wind and neighbours.
4. Lighting
Lighting creates atmosphere as much as decoration does: stage light for speakers, architectural light on walls, coloured spotlights, effects for the festive part. Good lighting can be adjusted for different moments and stays compatible with the photographer’s and videographer’s cameras.
5. The LED screen
- Size: set by the distance of the last row, not by the space available on stage.
- Brightness: essential if the event is in daylight or outdoors.
- Resolution: the closer the screen is to the audience, the more the image fineness matters.
- Content: formats and resolution of the videos and presentations to give the technician, with a test before the event.
- Control: who plays the videos, who changes the slides, which signal in case of a problem.
6. Questions to ask the supplier
- Is the equipment theirs or sub-rented? Who delivers and sets it up?
- Is a technician present throughout the event, including at the control desk?
- When is the set-up, the sound check, and the dismantling schedule?
- What electrical power should be planned, and is a generator supplied or recommended?
- What is the plan B in case of failure (microphone, speaker, light, screen)?
- What does the quote include: transport, set-up, technician, dismantling?
7. What a good quote must itemise
Line by line: stage (size, dressing), sound (speakers, microphones, control), lighting (number and type of fixtures), screen (size, resolution), labour (technicians, duration), transport, set-up and dismantling, electricity. A quote where everything is lumped into a single amount lets you neither compare nor adjust: ask for the detail.
8. The technical visit
When the venue is new, a visit with the technician is the best guarantee: ceiling height, truck access, sockets, existing lighting, acoustics. It avoids most surprises on the day. For an event in a function room, do it in the evening, at event time.
