Wedding hall, hotel, villa or garden: the questions to ask and the checks to make before booking the venue for your wedding in Tangier.
The venue sets the date, the capacity, the atmosphere and a large part of the budget: it is the first booking of a wedding. In Tangier the choice is wide — wedding halls, hotels on the bay and the corniche, villas with gardens on the Cap Spartel road or in Malabata, open-air spaces facing the Strait. Here is how to find your way.
The four main families of venues
The wedding hall
The classic solution: a hall built for receiving, with kitchen, tables, sometimes a stage and sound system. Advantage: everything is designed for a large number of guests. To check: what is included (tables, chairs, lighting, sound), the hours, and the freedom left for decoration and caterer.
The hotel
A polished setting, service, possible accommodation for relatives. To check: whether you must use the hotel’s caterer, the real capacity, decoration and music constraints.
The villa or garden
An intimate, customisable setting, often magnificent. But you have to bring everything: furniture, back-up kitchen, power, lighting, sound, sometimes a marquee. To check: access for delivery vehicles, electrical capacity, neighbours and hours.
Open air and marquee
A space facing the sea, a field, a garden: the effect is unique, but wind and weather need planning. See our guide to garden and marquee weddings.
Questions to ask before signing
- What is the real seated capacity, and with what layout (round tables, stage, dance floor)?
- What are the hours for set-up, start and end of the evening?
- Are the caterer, music and decoration free or imposed?
- What does the price include: tables, chairs, tablecloths, lighting, sound, cleaning, security?
- What electrical power is available?
- Is there a plan B in case of rain or wind?
- What happens in case of cancellation or change of date?
Visit at party time
Visit the venue in the evening, at the same time as your reception: you will see the real lighting, the noise, the traffic and the comfort. Visit too with your caterer and, if possible, with the person who will do the decoration: they spot straight away what will be a problem.
Book early
The best halls and summer weekends go very fast: book preferably several months ahead. If you hesitate between venues, we can visit them with you and tell you what each allows.
